About BCI
Better Cotton Initiative (BCI) is a not-for-profit organization and multistakeholder initiative stewarding the global standards for Better Cotton. BCI aims to transform cotton production worldwide by developing Better Cotton as a sustainable mainstream commodity.
BCI is for
Cotton growers(producers) who follow the standard components and grows cotton in a way that reduces stress on the environment and improves the livelihoods and welfare of farming communities.
Better Cotton Standard System (BCSS)
The BCI standard system is a holistic approach to sustainable cotton production, and key components are as follows:
BCI is for
License is available to individual cotton growers (for large farms only) or grower/producer groups (small, medium and large* farms). Growers must follow the production standard components for growing cotton and shall have effective management systems in place. All growers must complete the necessary steps with BCI directly prior to requesting a verification visit.
Ginners, spinners, traders, fabric mills etc. who are handling/selling the Better Cotton are have to be members of BCI and have to operate as per requirements of chain of custody standard.
(Large Farms: >200ha, Medium Farms: 20-200ha, Small holders: <20ha)
