EPD
Environmental Product Declaration
About EPD
Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) is a comprehensive document that communicates about the life-cycle environmental impact of products though verified, transparent and comparable information. The EPDs are based on standards ISO 14025 and EN 15804. Data collected in the Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) can be summarized in an Environmental Product Declaration (EPD).
Product Category Rules (PCR) define the rules and requirements for EPDs of a certain product category. They are a key part of ISO 14025 as they enable transparency and comparability between EPDs.
EPD Process
Product Category Rule – Identify the most relevant PCR for your product and if not available, contact a Program Operator to develop a PCR for your product type. Products have to meet PCR requirements.
Life Cycle Assessment - Develop a relevant goal and scope for the project based on relevant internal and external user groups identified. Ensure that valid and appropriate primary data are collected, and that secondary data needs are met. Conduct an LCA on your product based on collected data.
Create, Verify, & Publish EPD - Employ the LCA findings to develop an EPD for your product, according to ISO 14025 standard for Type III Environmental Declarations. This document will be verified and registered by a Program Operator and will be made publicly available via the Program Operator's website.
